Auto Expo 2016: Renault Kwid 1.0L and EasyR Variants Unveiled

Renault today unveiled two new variants of the Kwid at the 2016 Delhi Auto Expo. The Renault Kwid hatchback, which has received over 1 lakh bookings in 4 months, will add 1.0L and EasyR (AMT) variants to its line-up. While the carmaker hasn't revealed much else about the upcoming Renault Kwid AMT and 1.0-litre variants, it did bring in two Renault Kwid-based concepts.

The Renault Kwid Climber and Kwid Racer concepts also made their global debut at the ongoing motorshow in Greater Noida. With that being said, one must note Renault is yet to announce a launch date for the Renault Kwid 1.0L and EasyR variants - both petrol.

Currently, the hot-selling hatchback is powered by an 800cc petrol unit that is mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox. It offers 54bhp of power and 72Nm of torque, while its mileage is rated at 25.17km/l. The Kwid also features 98 per cent localisation, multiple segment-first features including 300-litre boot space, 180mm ground clearance, a 4.1-inch touch-screen infotainment system, an array of customisation options, etc.

The 1.0L variant will reportedly have a power output of 77bhp and get safety features like ABS and dual airbags as standard. In the current version, driver airbag is offered as an option only on the top-end variant.

The Renault Kwid, which was launched last year in September, crossed the 85,000 bookings-mark recently. In fact, there is a waiting period of up to 10 months for the car in some cities. In order to meet demand, Renault India plans to ramp up production by up to 50 per cent in the next few months.

Although the company hasn't released the total number of Kwids that it has sold so far, it managed to sell around 10,600 units in the first 2 months after its launch and posted figures of 6,888 units in December 2015.

The carmaker also hiked prices of the current 800cc version of the hatchback by up to Rs. 11,000 from January 2016 onwards, with the Kwid available at a price range of Rs. 2.60 - 3.64 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi).

Renault is obviously not content to rest on its laurels and plans to further expand its footprint in the small car segment in India by showcasing and then eventually launching the Kwid 1.0L and the Automatic variants in the country.

Along with the Kwid variants, the company will also unveil a facelifted model of the Duster and a special edition of the Lodgy at the 2016 Auto Expo. The company will also showcase the Renault EOLAB concept, the RenaultSport R.S.01, and its F1 racing car at the event.
