Top 5 Concept Cars At The Auto Expo 2018

The main attractions at the ongoing Auto Expo 2018 are the various concept cars that have taken centre-stage this year. Major car-manufacturers have put their best foot forward, as concept cars from Maruti Suzuki, Tata Motors, Mahindra and few others have been the talk of the town for its futuristic appeal. We take a look at the top 5 concept cars that caught our attention and should catch yours too when you visit Asia's biggest automobile exhibition.

Maruti Suzuki Concept Future S

After a series of teaser images, Maruti Suzuki took the wraps of the Concept Future S at the Auto Expo 2018, and is completely designed by the company in India. Once launched, the Concept Future S will rival the Renault Kwid in the entry-level segment. However, the company has not given a time-frame on when it will be launched, but our sources tell us that we can see a production-ready model most likely by 2019. In its design, the Concept Future S is very much modern and urban with its micro-SUV like stance and upright design elements. The headlamps and tail lights are sleek and aggressive, has high ground clearance with a flat hood, wide arches and haunches all combine together to give the Concept Future S the micro-SUV stance. Adding to the design language is the bright orange body color and pearl white accent pieces.

Tata Motors' 45X Concept

The most interesting concept on stage or... in a glass box is this, the 45X Concept from Tata Motors. Making its world debut at the Auto Expo 2018, the Tata 45X Concept is sort of a marvel to look at, as it oozes confidence with its bold styling and premium elements. The 45X concept is a hatchback and the design language is based on European lines. From the rear, it resembles to a Land Rover and is the first model to be built on Tata's AMP platform. The windscreen on the rear side is raked and sharp, while the roof spoiler and contrast roof bring out the sportiness.

Mahindra TUV Stinger Convertible SUV Concept

Making its first public debut is the concept from Mahindra, called the TUV Stinger convertible SUV, which is based on the Mahindra TUV300. The new TUV Stinger convertible SUV concept is focused on the young buyers in India, and is based on the company's "Live Young Live Free" motto. In terms of design, the new TUV Stinger convertible SUV concept is quite rugged and has a muscular stance. In the front, the new TUV Stinger convertible SUV concept gets large chrome grille with a big Mahindra logo applique inspired by a bird in flight, the wheel arches have robust body cladding to compliment the superior safety of the TUV Stinger convertible SUV concept. It also gets stylish LED headlamps and LED tail lamps. Under the hood, expect the TUV Stinger convertible SUV concept to get the tried and tested 2.2-litre mHawk engine, which churns out max power of 140 bhp and peak torque of 320 Nm.

Kia SP SUV Concept

The most interesting pavilion of them all was from the newest kid on the block. We couldn't help but take interest in the new SP Concept, which once launched, will take on its sibling, Hyundai Creta. We will see a production version of the KIA SP Concept sometime next year ahead of its launch by end of 2019. In terms of looks, the SP concept gets the family signature grille in the front giving it an aggressive stance. The new headlamps have two design elements- one is the slimmer edgier running light on the top and illumination lights running on the bottom. At back, it resembles the Creta, and takes inspiration from the Sportage SUV. At heart will be a 1.6-litre diesel engine and the new 1-litre direct injection mill.

Renault 'The Concept'

We've told you about the Maruti Concept Future S and the Kia SP Concept, and now this is Renault's take, and it's called 'The Concept'. The Concept is a Made-in-India product and also designed by an Indian right here in at Renault's design studio in Chennai and Mumbai. Now, this is a first for Renault, as the French car-maker has never showcased a home-grown concept. As for the Kwid, it was an International project. The Concept is a slightly larger hatchback and the roof opens for you to get in and has a really cool color combination, it comes in pearl white and yellow. Inside, the seats is like a wooden deck and looks like a yacht of sorts. If all goes well, we could soon see 'The Concept' turned into production, but will have to wait when that really does happen. Renault has given a maritime theme to the whole car and this is clear at the rear as it has boat like steps at the back. The lighting is very distinctive which runs across the back. While this won't go into production as is, Renault is considering to enter the premium hatchback segment, and if does become a reality, we could soon see somewhat similar car on Indian roads in the near future.
